It’s not just the weather – but how AMAZING has it been – the City is flexing it’s pre-festival muscles. Kicked off by Robbie Williams, the Edinburgh Jazz & Bues Festival , Tradfest, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo stands are up on the Esplanade…..Oasis are coming!!!
So a few things are on my radar amongst it all this month –
Edinburgh Food Festival returns from 18 – 27 July 2025 as the newly minted Edinburgh Food & folk Festival . Situated in the Assembly George Square Gardens, it looks a no brainer – free entry pretty much guarantees at least an enjoyable afternoon and food vendors alone should peak your interest.

I think I am a little obsessed with the Dovecote Gallery – perhaps it is the promise of coffee and cake in the Cafe after – but it seems to continuously host innovative, creative and very individual exhibitions. The next 6 months are no different. Magical Patterns is the latest offering, celebrating 60 years of IKEAs innovative textile design. Featuring 180 iconic fabrics showcasing the changing designs and relationship between creativity and commercialism, during this period – without having to get lost and frustrated in a oneway warehouse.

If you feel the need to get out of the city, why not head East down the coast to Dunbar. This years’ European Land Art Festival and Sone Stacking Championships 2025 are being held, from 15 – 20 July. All events are FREE to attend and enter other than the Live Music Fundraiser gigs on Friday and Saturday Nights.

I am stealing my last recommendation – distraught it has only just come to my attention. Who forgot to mention to me that Thistle & Churn make the most delicious freshly made, unique ice creams? And their own waffle cones. And yes, they taste as good as the photo’s on their website. Follow on Instagram @thistle_and_churn discover where they are on any given day.
